Substance use Prevention
Preventing drug abuse and excessive alcohol use increases people’s chances of living long, healthy, and productive lives. Alcohol and other drug use can impede judgment and lead to harmful risk-taking behavior. Preventing substance abuse improves quality of life, academic performance, workplace productivity, reduces crime, reduces motor vehicle crashes and fatalities, and lowers health care costs for acute and chronic conditions.
The YES Partnership works with various agencies to educate Tuolumne county youth and families about the dangers of substance abuse. Efforts include: promotion of drug-free weeks in schools, drug take-back days, awareness campaigns, the “Every 15 minutes” events on high school campuses, and collaborating with local law enforcement and health agencies to assess local rates and prevention strategies.
